Quercetin is a compound naturally occurring in plants. It’s known as a flavonoid, or a plant compound that is biologically active in the human body and associated with medicinal benefit. Quercetin is found in citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables, seeds, nuts, broccoli, apples, onions, and many additional fruits and vegetables.

As an antioxidant, quercetin assists the body with finding and neutralizing free radicals, harmful molecules with potential to cause cell damage. Quercetin induces a gene responsible for regulating cell growth and clearing away old and damaged cells. Early research shows quercetin impacts the immune system. One example is quercetin’s ability to stabilize mast cells, a type of immune cell responsible for alerting the body to invaders and releasing histamine (important for cell defense but also causes pesky allergy symptoms!). A pilot study of 60 adults with asthma showed increased nasal comfort and improvement in respiratory function for participants taking quercetin. Participants using quercetin reported less rescue inhaler and nasal drop use compared to the non-quercetin group. Our preferred quercetin product, Quercetin UltraSorb, is combined with a plant-based phospholipid complex from the Sophora japonica flower and sunflowers to enhance absorption and bioavailability. The patented combination increased absorption by 20 times in a comparison study with regularly formulated quercetin. To enjoy the benefits of quercetin this cold, flu, and allergy season, take Quercetin UltraSorb 1 capsule by mouth 1-2 times daily with meals. Purchase in-store at SummitRX Pharmacy!
